RNEBS Alston Memorial Historical Society
The RNEBS Alston Memorial Historical Society (Charity Reg No 289693) was formed in 1984 from a donation given to the RNEBS to promote a memorial to Lt J.H. Alston. He was an officer on board the submarine HMS AFFRAY that was lost in the Channel on 17th April 1951 with the loss of 75 lives. When the RNEBS approached the Captain of HMS Sultan for suggestions of a suitable memorial to Lt Alston, the formation of a Marine Engineering Museum was put forward.
The Aims & activities of the Museum
To provide and maintain a Museum for the exhibition to the public including members of the Engineering Branch of the Royal Navy of documents artifacts and memorabilia and other items connected with the Engineering Branch, for the purpose of educating the public and members of the Engineering Branch in Engineering and it's traditions from it's conception to the present day.
